Club Overview

The returning core

Sheffield head into the 2026/27 Elite League season under head coach Aaron Fox, looking to build on a fourth-place finish last time out. The Steelers have retained a sizeable core of last season's squad while adding significant fresh quality across all three positions over the summer.

On the blue line, Brien Diffley, Dominic Cormier and Liam Steele all return, giving Fox a settled group of defencemen who know the system. Up front, captain Robert Dowd is back alongside Evan Jasper, Ivan Bjorkly-Nordstrom, Mikko Juusola, Mitchell Balmas and Ryan Tait, while Curtis Warburton and Matt Greenfield continue between the pipes.

Summer reinforcements

The headline addition is forward Tim Gettinger, who joins from Schwenninger Wild Wings in Germany's DEL. He arrives as the most recent confirmed signing and adds further size and experience to Sheffield's forward group.

Elsewhere up front, Olivier Archambault joins from Angers Ducs in France, while forward Sean Collins arrives from Black Wings Linz in Austria' ICE Hockey League. Leevi Teissala joins from Södertälje SK in Sweden, Adam Rockwood arrives from BIK Karlskoga, and Brandon Whistle joins from Elite League rivals Belfast Giants. Jordan O'Brien signs after his time with Peterborough Petes U18 in the OHL.

On the blue line, Aatu Aarnio arrives from Sport in Finland' Liiga, Logan Roe joins from Black Wings Linz and Macoy Erkamps signs from Iserlohn Roosters in Germany, adding further depth alongside the retained trio of Diffley, Cormier and Steele. In goal, Lucas Brine joins from Glasgow Clan to provide competition and depth alongside Warburton and Greenfield.

Summer Departures

Projected Line-up

Sheffield have the potential to have one of the deepest rosters in the Elite League, with Fox to have constant competition through his lineup. Chemistry was seemingly hardly to come by last season. So this pre-season, is crucial for the Orange Army to get gelled quickly. This would be our 'ideal' projected lines which reflects how deep the Steelers could be.

First Line: Olivier Archambault, Adam Rockwood and Mitchell Balmas

Second Line: Mikko Juusola, Tim Gettinger and Leevi Teissala

Third Line: Evan Jasper, Sean Collins and Ryan Tait

Fourth Line: Robert Dowd, Brandon Whistle and Ivan Bjorkly-Nordstrom

First Pairing: Dominic Cormier & Macoy Erkamps

Second Pairing: Logan Roe & Brien Diffley

Third Pairing: Aatu Aarnio & Liam Steele

Netminders: Matt Greenfield, Lucas Brine and Curtis Warburton

Players To Watch

DT Star

Mitchell Balmas

The reigning Dream Team MVP remains one of the Elite League's most explosive forwards and should once again be among the first names selected by fantasy managers.

Sleeper Pick

Olivier Archambault

If Archambault gets off to a hot start, look for Dream Team coaches to get him moved into their teams pretty sharpish.

Breakout Candidate

Ryan Tait

Tait has the opportunity to establish himself as an important contributor in Sheffield's forward group, his pace is a huge asset.

Top Defenceman

Dominic Cormier

One of the league's premier offensive defencemen, Cormier should once again quarterback the powerplay and rank among the EIHL's highest-scoring blueliners.

Starting Netminder

Matt Greenfield

Widely regarded as one of the Elite League's elite goaltenders, Greenfield's consistency gives Sheffield a chance to win every night.

Fantasy Outlook

DT Verdict

Sheffield once again look equipped to challenge for every major honour. Chemistry will be the key for the Steelers if they are to succeed.
